Common Workplace Injuries

Whatever your job, wherever your workplace, it is imperative that your employer does everything in their power to provide you with a safe working environment. If they fail to do so and an employee sustains an injury as a result of the employer's negligence, they could be faced with having to pay a significant sum in compensation. Here are some of the most common injuries that employees sustain whilst at work:

Slips and trips account for almost a third of all injuries sustained in the workplace are the result of slips or trips. These can occur when walking surfaces become wet or damaged or if there is an obstruction on a walkway. Slips can vary in seriousness, from not serious at all (to the extent where they are even quite humorous) to extremely serious, where severe injury is sustained. In order to avoid such an incident form occurring, measures should be taken to ensure that any spillages are cleaned up and the appropriate warning signs put in place immediately. If any flooring becomes worn or damaged, it should be replaced immediately and under no circumstances should there be anything obstructing walkways.

Manual handling also accounts for almost a third of all workplace injuries. Moving heavy objects can cause all manner of injuries, ranging from straining muscles and ligaments to breaking bones when objects are dropped. Even in the office, heavy lifting might be required when moving stationery etc. As such, it shouldn't just be the manual jobs that should take extra precautions. In every workplace, proper guidance on safe lifting practices should be provided.

Electrical accidents are extremely commonplace in the workplace and this isn't just limited to electricians. Most professions require the use of some sort of electrical equipment and as such, they are at risk of being electrocuted. It is the employer's duty to ensure that all equipment has passed the appropriate safety checks and that all employees have had the appropriate training in using the equipment safely.

If employees carry out the appropriate safety procedures, the workplace should be a safe environment and the number of accidents that take place each year could be significantly reduced.

If you've experienced injury for any of the above reasons, or indeed for any other reasons that were out of your control, you could be eligible to make a personal injury claim. Personal Injury Group provide expert legal advice and representation to help you claim the compensation that you deserve.
