Alicante Airport is one of the busiest in the whole of Spain and serves as the main international transport hub for the entire region. At Alicante airport roughly 70% of the flights are international, a huge proportion of which are British holiday makers out to partake of the number of attractions that the province has to offer. The airport, which handles the 6th highest rate of air traffic in the entire country, is conveniently situated, a mere 9km drive from the city of Alicante, of which it lies to the South West.
This drive to the city is simple enough, although taxi drivers do see it as something of a cash cow and the constant stream of tourists leaving the airport and seeking out their accommodation provides them with a lucrative and steady source of income. If you think you are going to be driving around a bit on your holiday it can be well worth avoiding the inconvenience (not to mention expense) of having to rely on taxis for transport by using car hire. This can be easily arranged over the net before you even lift a foot off of British soil, or if you prefer you can just easily organise car hire at Alicante airport face to face with one of the many agents who work in the airport, representing some of the most widely known and well trusted names in the whole of the industry.
The most direct road to take out of the airport toward Alicante is the N-338, which you then turn off onto the N-332 which will basically lead you toward the city. You'll find the 15 minute journey to be very easy, as the road is clearly signed and well maintained and driving on the motorways in a foreign country is often easier than negotiating the tight traffic of city spaces where, often a tad bit more aggression than one might normally use is required.
If you're starting you're holiday elsewhere in Spain, you can make your way toward Alicante using very basic routes which run along Spain's Eastern coast. For example if you're a patron of Malaga car hire you can reach Alicante in about half a day by car, using the E-902 to head up North East, past Granada into the Valencian region.
